Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies
The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) minor will help you explore new perspectives that you’ll use in every relationship, every job, and every circumstance. When you minor in Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, you study varied disciplines like communication, psychology, theory, math & science, literature, history, sociology, art, and politics, all with a gendered lens. While WGSS is not connected to a specific career like accounting or computer science, the perspectives you acquire do open up more employment opportunities since jobs often require evidence of credentials in diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies minor provides a thoughtful choice for careers in medicine, business, teaching, politics, social work, government, law, non-profits, and other endeavors where equity and social sensitivity are expected.
Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is not just about women. Gender and sexuality exist along a spectrum and are affected by many intersecting factors. This minor makes you think about layers of identity and explore how oppressions like racism, sexism, transphobia, classism and ableism are comparable and intertwined. Students examine how social, historical, and psychological forces, organized by gender, shape individuals, communities, and societies. Minoring in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies allows you to challenge these intersecting oppressions and address the systemic problems that create them. When you choose this minor, you become an agent — not a bystander — in the process of bringing humanity one step closer to equality.
