Course Description

This course is specifically designed to address the essential components of children’s health and wellness. The course will present culturally relevant and sustaining educational methods to teach and promote children’s health through awareness, effective and diverse practices, and knowledge of health and wellness issues; address the creation and maintenance of safe environments for young children both inside and outside of the classroom environment; and meet children’s nutritional needs through culturally relevant education and planning. The course includes useful and practical advice for adopting a wellness lifestyle that considers individual interests, goals, and life situations.
Emphasis will be placed on preventive, inclusive, health practices, the promotion of lifelong physical activity that is diverse in its options, and on the collaborative effort of families, communities, and teachers in the promotion of these wellness issues in the face of current health and wellness issues for children, especially mental and physical health.
