PHYS 231 requires students to apply introductory differential calculus concepts, which can be learned concurrently with the course. Allowing MATH 161 to be taken as a co-requisite will improve student access to PHYS 231, reduce scheduling bottlenecks, and better align with common practices in peer institutions. Students will still enter the course with appropriate mathematical preparation while making progress toward timely degree completion.
