Chemistry, B.S. - Environmental & Green Chemistry Option

ChemistryUndergraduateBachelors

The Environmental and Green Chemistry option is designed for students interested in chemistry and passionate about environmental issues. It provides a strong foundation in all the core areas of chemistry, while integrating coursework and laboratory experiences focused on environmental systems, sustainable chemical practices, and interdisciplinary applications.

Students develop skills in pollution prevention, sustainable chemical design, principles of green chemistry, environmental sampling, toxicology, risk assessment, regulatory frameworks and other environmentally relevant areas. These skills are highly valued and increasingly sought after as employers work to achieve sustainability goals.

Laboratory experiences incorporate modern analytical instrumentation, environmental sampling, data analysis and green chemistry experiments. Students gain practical, hands‑on experience through required supervised research and can build real‑world skills through internships done in partnership with local industry collaborators.

Graduates of this option are well prepared for graduate work in chemistry or related disciplines such as environmental engineering. They are equally equipped for careers in chemical and pharmaceutical industries, environmental consulting, government agencies, sustainability-related roles, regulatory affairs, and quality assurance positions.
